Psathyrella caputmedusae (Fr.) Konrad & Maublanc Cap 4-5cm across, campanulate; dull date brown when moist, with small fibrillose scales that have darker tips. Gills adnate, crowded, narrow; white then pinkish gray to brown. Stem 50-100 x 7-8mm; white; fibrillose-scaly below a membranous ring. Flesh white. Odor pleasant. Taste pleasant. Spores ovoid to ellipsoid, 9-12 x 4.5-6pµ. Deposit purplish brown. Pleurocystidia obtuse to rounded. Habitat on conifer wood. Rather rare. Found in Europe and the Pacific Northwest. Season September-November. Edibility not known -avoid.
